10 Easy Tips For Beginning Guitar

10 Easy Tips For Beginning Guitar Suzy S. For music lovers, theres nothing quite like the Grammy awards, and last night certainly didnt disappoint.   But it was one simple quote from Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl that really made an impression on us. In his acceptance speech for Best Rock Performance, Grohl said humbly, To me this award means a lot because it shows that the human element of music is what’s most important.   Singing into a microphone and learning to play an instrument and learning to do your craft, that’s the most important thing for people to do.   Its not about being perfect, its not about sounding absolutely correct, its not about what goes on in the computer, its about what goes on in [your heart] and its about what goes on in [your head]. We couldnt have said it better. Passion, inspiration, motivation thats what its all about.   Forget flashy performances and shock value you can do great things with just an acoustic guitar and well-crafted lyrics.   Yet for some reason, many of us out there still think up excuses for not picking up the guitar.   We say were too busy, its too hard, we dont have any other musical training, and it hurts our fingers.   In actuality, its really quite simple.   If you want to learn the guitar, do it. It doesnt matter if youre ten years old or sixty years old anyone can learn to play, and anyone can make time to practice. As Grohl said, you dont have to be perfect.   Just start simply.   Take it one step at a time.   And for a little extra guidance, here are 10 guitar tips for the absolute beginner: 1 â€" Make sure you choose the right guitar for your size. Guitars come in different sizes from classic to jumbo. It is very important that you find a guitar size that you are comfortable playing. 2 â€" Learn how to change your guitar strings.   The dirt and oil on your fingers and hands builds up on your strings over time and will ruin their sound. It is therefore extremely important that you learn how to change your strings.   How often you change them will depend on how often you play. 3 â€" Build up those calluses. Many beginners complain of pain in their fingertips when first starting out. This is normal and will go away after you have been playing for a little while and start to form calluses. The more often you practice the faster you will build up calluses. 4 â€" Learn how to tune your guitar. Make sure your guitar is in tune before you start every practice session. Tuning your guitar is really quite easy. You can either purchase one of those small battery powered guitar tuners, or you can easily find a tuner online. 5 â€" Find a good guitar teacher. While it is possible to learn at your own pace at home using free guitar lessons online, books and guitar home study courses, nothing can really replace a guitar teacher. A guitar teacher will help keep you from forming bad guitar playing habits and praise you when you are making progress. 6 â€" Stretch and warm up your hands and fingers before each playing session. This is important. Proper warm up and stretching exercises are essential in helping you avoid injury and improving your guitar playing. 7 â€" Learn about the parts of your guitar. Spend as much time as possible familiarizing yourself with all the various parts of your guitar and how it is constructed. 8 â€" Don’t overdo it. If you are experiencing any pain or discomfort during your playing or practice session, stop and take a break. 9 â€" Try to learn something new. If you continually do the same thing, day after day, then your guitar playing will become stagnant and you will not progress. 10 â€" Go to live performances. This will give you a chance to get up close and personal with the musicians, enabling you to see first-hand how a professional plays. See what we mean?   Start out simple, and pretty soon youll be working your way up to the more complicated chords and songs.   Do you have your own tips to share?   Leave us a comment! If you hire a tutor to create your home tutoring programme and guide you in learning how to cook, you should not be surprised if they don’t include how to write cookbooks. This may be a related topic, but unless you have shared your expectations, goals and wishes with the tutor to want to expand the curriculum to other related topics, then you may find them left out of your sessions.Make notes and use your study skills. Photo Source: UnsplashTutees in Need of Extra School SupportA tutee is a student or learner who works with a tutor towards achieving their maximum potential. The success of all tutoring services starts with the student. While the tutor is experienced, professional and ready to guide the tutee to victory. If the tutee doesn’t attend the sessions or engage with the curriculum, there can be no success despite how skilled the tutor is.The tutee, in this case, holds the keys to their own academic success, and they must be open to guidance and be willing to work to achieve it. When an experienced tutor and a dedicated tutees come together, the ability to accomplish anything that they put their minds to becomes a proven reality. The Tutor and Tutee Relationship7 Tips To Be A Better TuteeNo partnership works without hard work, and this couldn’t be truer when it comes to private tuition. To achieve your goals you have to do your part. Follow these steps to make the most of your education, become a better tutee and support your tutor in guiding you toward your highest potential.Communicate EffectivelyLike we mentioned above your tutor will guide you anywhere that you want to go. They will work to give you the tools to do the best that you are capable of. But it is vital to note that until you share with your tutor what goal or outcome you are expecting they will only be able to lead you generally. The power of working with a personal tutor 1 on 1 is to get the most out of the session. You need to have a consultation with the tutor before hiring them, sharing what your expectations are, what you hope to achieve and it could also be vital for them to know how you plan to use your knowledge once it is acquired.Once you start your sessions with your tutor, you should make sure to continue to communicate with them effectively. This is especially true if your goals or requirements change. Tutors can be very flexible and can even recreate the whole curriculum to suit your new requirements. If you choose not to communicate, then you are losing out a tremendous opportunity to be provided with the very best and most personal mentoring available.Engage With The SessionsMake sure to arrange your meetings at a time that you can actually attend punctually. Tutor scheduling is not suggested, and you will pay for the time that you have booked. Ensure that you co mmit to arriving on time to all of your sessions. This means coming 5-10 minutes early so that you have time to set up and prepare manually for the session. When the session starts, you should make sure that you have everything you need to complete the course successfully. This could include textbooks, pens, post-its and study guides. To avoid any distraction while studying in the session you should, as a rule, turn off all electronic devices, i.e. your mobile telephone and at the very least turn of all notifications. For the time that you are with your tutor, there should be no distractionsBeing ready for your session is paramount to your success. That is why your Superprof offers this guide to selecting and working with tutors.Make Notes And Study SkillsWhile you are studying and learning your new skill, ensure that you are also spending some time to take detailed notes of what was discussed, what thoughts you have about the topic and write down any breakthroughs you have experience d. If you need to slow down to take more extensive notes, ask the tutor to give you a few minutes so that you can take notes on anything that you deem essential. It is important to remember that the tutor is hired to go at your pace, you are not in the session to follow the speed of the tutor. If you need time to write notes take the time.Increase Comprehension With Short Session ReviewsOnce your session has finished, go to a quiet place where you can concentrate and round up what you have learned by reviewing it thoroughly. Make sure that now that you are alone and that it all seems as clear as it was in class. If you can try to expand on what you have learned with homework or personal study.Looking over your notes and rewriting them can also really help with concreting what it is that you have learnt to memory. This is important because often the issue is not learning the topic the problem often comes down to remembering what we have discovered. While your tutor can do a review with you at the start of the lesson it should be noted that the best time to retain the knowledge of your session is after the session itself.Be RealisticIf you hire a tutor to help you do exam prep or pass an exam one week before the exam and you know nothing about the topic. It is pretty likely that you are being unrealistic. Even though your tutor will be able to put together an intensive program that could give you a chance. Your best hope is planning in advance and giving yourself time, learning takes time, and remembering and being able to digest what you have learnt can take time also. It is essential to understand our own limitations and manage our expectations accordingly.Although the tutor is guiding you every step of the way in how to learn and what to learn you are still the one who has to do the work. The tutor cannot turn you into someone you are not overnight.Take Some Time OffIt may sound counter-intuitive but make sure that while you are studying that you take a regular study break and at least once a week, every week take some time out to relax and do some fun things that you enjoy. While you should be passionate and enthusiastic about your home tuition programme. Relaxing is as essential as studying is for your success, as it gives your brain a break and an opportunity to recuperate. There are various benefits to taking long and short study breaks including increased concentration and faster learning. Although working excessively hard and ‘cramming’ is what is typically seen as an efficient way of studying. This promotes exhaustion, stress, fatigue and a lower retention rate. That means that the longer you study without a break, the less you learn and the worse you feel. Even taking a 5-minute break every hour can have positive effects. Remember at the end of the school year you a lot of time free and so can commit to a more intensive program and still enjoy your spare time.Have Confidence In Your TutorSometimes it can all seem too much and b ecome overwhelming, but your tutor is there to support you, and so you should not give up. Whether you progress is slow or fast, all progress is good progress. If your tutor is aware of your strengths and weaknesses, they will be actively coming up with customized strategies for students.  Make sure to reward yourself for small successes and speak to your tutor to ask them how you are progressing and if there are any other strategies you could use to advance more efficiently.Your private tutor actively comes up with customized strategies for students. Photo Source: UnsplashOne on one tutoring can make you feel like your knight in shining armour has arrived. Private tutors are extremely passionate about their subjects and this knowledge and professionalism can introduce enrichment and mastery into your learning experience. It is important to realise though that your tutor is only going to give you the tools and guide you towards your success. Fundamentally you are the one responsibl e for taking the first step and applying it to everything you learn. This is a powerful realisation to accept, but you must commit to keep improving. We hope that you have enjoyed our top tips on how to make the most of your home tuition. If you are able to apply just a few of these pointers, then you will be on track to becoming best student possible, and you will achieve success in your topic.Invest in your success by evaluating your tutor to make sure s/he and your child will work well together for a long time.

Food Groups Dairy

Food Groups Dairy What is Dairy? ChaptersDo We Need Dairy?Dairy Intolerance and Milk AllergyDairy AlternativesIn the UK, dairy is consumed on a daily basis: a staple food group in many people’s diets. Although this is starting to change, milk and dairy products are not challenged as much as they probably should be; milk can be found in so many foods we consume every day without us even realising it.When we talk about dairy, we are referring to milk or products containing milk, produced mainly by cows and goats. The dairy products include butter, yoghurt, cream and cheese. These products and their variations go through many processes including pasteurization, fermentation and churning to create the different consistencies of dairy and remove bacteria. The consumption of milk, in all forms: whole, semi-skimmed or skimmed, according to one report in 2016, is declining but, due to the belief that dairy products are the best source of calcium, the United Kingdom still remains one of the highest consumers of milk in the world. We rarely question our consumption of milk and dairy despite not being a necessary source of calcium. (Source:  Photo credit:  Pedro Moura Pinheiro  on  Visualhunt)That being said, dairy foods come in a variety of forms: cheese, yoghurt, butter and cream as well as food containing these ingredients such as cakes, biscuits, pizza and pastry are all dairy products. Although these are seen as very normal food products, often consumed daily by many, they can make avoiding dairy harder than expected. The best option is to eat less processed foods which automatically helps limit dairy intake and cuts calories. Natural and animal free foods are generally low in fat (saturated fat) and higher in nutrients.Lactose and milk powder are also used in other, less assuming foods acting as fillers and additives for longer shelf life, such as cereals, crisps and sauces. This brings us onto another element of dairy consumption.Dairy Intolerance and Milk AllergyLactose intolerance is one of the mo re well-known consequences of dairy consumption. If someone is lactose intolerant, it  means the body cannot digest lactose because the it does not produce enough lactase, which breaks lactose down into two sugars called glucose and galactose. This lack of lactase causes digestive problems such as bloating, stomach cramps, nausea and diarrhoea. Not a nice experience for anyone and perhaps one indicator of why we should not consume cow’s milk  as regularly as we do.However, despite lactose intolerance becoming a common and prevalent illness that could help us in the decision to ditch dairy altogether, there is instead a full range of lactose-free dairy products on our supermarket shelves. These products are not only more expensive to buy than average dairy products but they are also unnecessary for our health.Less well known is the fact that many people are  allergic to dairy,  suffering from mild symptoms such as hives, vomiting and diarrhoea and, in extreme cases, anaphylactic sh ock. Although both an allergy and an intolerance can cause uncomfortable and painful symptoms, an allergy can be life-threatening caused by the protein found in milk and needs to be taken very seriously.Find the best nutrition courses here.Dairy ice-cream is something allergy sufferers have to avoid. (Source:  Photo credit:  m01229  on  Visual hunt )Dairy AlternativesThe decision to ditch dairy is a personal one and, in the UK, consuming milk has become so ingrained in our everyday habits, for some, living without dairy can seem impossible. We take it in our tea, on our cereal, and spread on our toast. It is found in all our favourite biscuits and cakes and even in our favourite pack of crisps. So how do avoid it and what are the alternatives? In terms of replacing milk, there are now a variety of choices available to us. There is soya, hemp, coconut, almond, and oat to name a few. This is not to say making the switch is an easy one, adapting to the different tastes does take time espe cially if we have consumed milk all our lives. It is best to find the right alternative that suits personal taste. It is also a good idea to test the different varieties of milk on cereal, and in the variety of tea we drink to see which one works best. For example, depending on how we drink our coffee, almond milk and soya milk are great for frothing up lattes and cappuccinos, whereas adding soya or oat milk into our cup before adding an English breakfast tea prevents cuddling, and makes a great brew.Transitioning is all about trial an error but there is the right alternative out there for everyone. And, if we are lucky, old un-serving traditions could transcend into new, healthier ones. Tea drinking in the average UK home could receive a total makeover!Yoghurt can be replaced by soya, coconut or even nut variations, and butter can be swapped for plant-based varieties, too.Harder to replace are those everyday luxury items we buy in the UK, such as biscuits, chocolate, cakes and ice-c ream. Although replacements cannot yet be found in many  convenience or local stores, larger supermarkets are starting stock more dairy-free options and of course, there are more specialised shops if you are lucky enough to live close to one. Most dark chocolate contains soya  derivatives instead of dairy, it is just a matter of checking the ingredients. There are many plant-based supermarkets starting to appear across the UK, and these stores carry many of the luxury items we have become used to just without the dairy. You can learn more about food choices and substitution from nutritionist courses!Almond milk is a great substitute in lattes and cappuccinos.  (Source:  rawpixel on Unsplash)Check out Superprof's list of nutrition courses. There is also the option to bake our own treats and use nut butter or certain oils to replace butter: it is not surprising to find out that these alternative ingredients are delicious in baked foods. A recent episode of the The Great British Bake off featured a variety of treats that could be made with eggs and dairy.Last but by no means least, is the issue of cheese. Cheese is most the common complaint when it comes to avoiding dairy. Many people believe that they cannot live without cheese. This belief is mainly because it contains a high concentration of casein created through the cheese making process. Casein contains has fragments of what is called casomorphins (morphine compounds). This can make cheese very addictive, making it very hard to give up.However, the taste of cheese is hard to replace and although there are many alternatives out there, it is hard to convince cheese lovers to ditch it altogether. If this is the case and cheese is the last thing to go, it is a good idea to just to limit cheese where possible. Many people find that once they have transitioned to milk alternatives, after time, cheese starts to taste unnatural and strange. It is worth taking time to break habits to become healthier in the long run.Ca lcium is a nutrient our body needs and with more and more research becoming available, people are opting to avoid dairy as it no longer known to be the  best source. It is not only a factor relating to our health but also a factor for dairy cows and the planet. If we can avoid suffering and become healthier by doing so, there are no strong reasons why we can’t consider alternatives. It is a personal choice but it is important to know that despite dairy being on the government's Eatwell Guide as a food group, it is not necessary to consume. The Guide can only serve as the basis for our nutrition with the hope that more up to date research will mean it becomes more accurate.Calcium does not have to be dairy. The more people make the switch, the more convenient and cheaper alternatives will become so that everyone can afford to buy them.Want to learn more about your food groups...?Read about carbohydrates.Read about protein.Read about fat.Read about fruit and vegetables.
